Our curriculum

An ambitious Key Stage 2 curriculum that helps every child grow in confidence, curiosity and character.

At Shelton Junior School, our curriculum is designed to enable children to reach their full potential by developing a love of learning, building positive relationships and encouraging a desire to succeed. In short: Together, we learn, trust and succeed. Read more about our aims, ethos and values.

Curriculum vision

A broad, ambitious learning journey

Our curriculum goes beyond the formal requirements of the National Curriculum so children experience the richest range of opportunities we can provide. Reading and developing a rich, varied vocabulary underpin every aspect of learning.

Aims, ethos and values

Vision and values

Our curriculum encompasses the formal requirements of the National Curriculum while also making sure children are exposed to meaningful experiences beyond the classroom. It is designed to build knowledge, confidence, curiosity and character.

The curriculum is further enhanced by our commitment to children’s wellbeing and a values-based education, including Fundamental British Values and Protected Characteristics. Through these, we provide learning experiences that help build future collaborators, innovators, leaders and young people who understand what it means to be human.

Curriculum Overview

Curriculum organisation

Children study the core subjects of reading, writing and maths during their morning sessions, with this work and knowledge often linking to wider foundation subject learning during the afternoon.

Children learn foundation subjects through three term-long topics each year, with a history, science and geography focus to ensure they gain a broad range of knowledge and skills. Our foundation subject curriculum knowledge content is split into a two-year curriculum.

We are currently following Year B for the 2025-2026 academic year.
