Strategic leadership

Three core functions

Our governors meet regularly with school leaders, undertake monitoring visits and ensure that public funding is used wisely. Their role is set by the Department for Education.

The governing board provides strategic leadership and accountability at Shelton. We are a team of volunteers drawn from the school community, parents, staff and the local authority who work together to support and challenge the school.

What governors do

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction. Setting the school’s long-term goals.
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

One of the ways we do this is through carrying out regular monitoring visits to school, talking with staff and pupils, and reviewing data and policies.
