British values

How we prepare our pupils for life in modern Britain through the active promotion of fundamental values.

In line with Department for Education guidance, we actively promote British values across the curriculum and through the daily life of the school so that young people are prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our school community

Respect, tolerance and understanding

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect, tolerance and understanding. We celebrate difference and welcome every child as a valued member of our school family.

The five values

The Department for Education has identified five British values that all schools must actively promote.

  • Democracy — pupils have a voice through our School Council, class discussions and surveys.
  • Rule of law — we explore why rules and laws exist, and how they keep us safe.
  • Individual liberty — pupils are encouraged to make safe choices and to take responsibility for themselves.
  • Mutual respect — we treat each other with kindness and value every contribution.
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs — we learn about and celebrate the diversity of our community.

We promote these values through assemblies, our PSHE curriculum, the wider curriculum and the everyday life of the school.
